Charity benefits from fun golf club

The Honiton Wine Bar Golf Society’s annual prize giving dinner proved to be the usual evening of fun and banter and members celebrated raising £950 for Clic Sargent, the children’s cancer charity.

Twenty-eight players gathered to recognise the winners of the year’s outings and to relive and share their own stories of the year just gone.

The golf society is now in its fifth year and plays some of the best local courses once each month during the summer playing season.

Members are proud to welcome players of all ages and abilities and have an emphasis on fun and enjoyment of the sport for all. Anyone interested in joining us should simply ask at The Honiton Wine Bar says Graham Quinlan the proprietor.

At the dinner, Terry Amos was recognised as overall winner for 2012. Richard Hooper was awarded the AG Sign’s Player of the Year Cup and Richard Seymour was appointed as captain for 2013.

Additional trophies for bad dress sense, too much talking and the most ‘bum’ shots were presented and better signify the spirit of the group.

Throughout the year and on the night the group managed to raise £950 for CLICSargent, the children’s cancer charity, by a series of games, sweepstakes, penalties and a swear-box. Graham Quinlan of The Honiton Wine Bar made this up to £1000 by a further personal donation.

Sarah Shaw, CLICSargent’s Area Fundraising Manager joined the evening’s celebrations and said in her thank you address that she was delighted to see such fun being had whilst benefiting such a worthy cause.
