A close encounter ended 58-55 in Axminster’s favour with winning rinks of John Hill, Gerald Knott, Geoff Clode, and Bob Sherborne (17-14) and Morrison Brown, Phil Stephens, Neil Solomon, and Norman Denslow (23-20).

The Ladies lost their Devon Foxlands League game with top-of-the-table Madeira 50-123 with no winners, before narrowly losing a triples friendly at home to the same club, 45-48, despite winning on two of the three rinks played.

The winners were Jo Barnish,Diana Courtenay-Smith, and Ann Clayton (20-7) and Joan Quick, Mary Preston, and Margaret Crompton (19-16).

The Ladies then had a good home win against Honiton (52-40) in a friendly match with wins on all rinks – Alison Glyde, Pauline Knight, Diana Courtenay-Smith, and Ann Clayton (19-10), Phil White, Eve Cole, Daphne Ryan, and Margaret Crompton (16-14), and Margaret Stancliffe, Lou Harris, Jean Kesterton, and Judith Moffitt (17-16).

In the mixed friendlies we lost at Bridport (63-91) in a four-rinker with a winning rink of Bob Turpin, Morrison Brown, David Harris, and Margaret Crompton (22-20) before beating Chardstock at home (84-56) with success for Eve Cole, Mary Preston, David Harris, and Brian Clark (33-11) and Phil White, William Cook, Pam Clark, and Ann Clayton (27-16).

We held a very successful Captains Day at Cloakham recently with lady captain Jean Kesterton organising an excellent meal which was followed by a ‘round-robin’ competition.

The ladies and gents prizes went to Pam Clark and George Mabon respectively.
