The Colyton Fiver returned last weekend with a revised course using the lanes and fields between Colyton and Colyford. Over 100 runners, who raised more than £630 for the BBC Children in Need Appeal, enjoyed three different events.

Suzanne Spiller from Honiton Running Club was first lady home in 34:15. Ian Apps was on form with 7th place in 31:30. Ian Clements sprinted home to clock 35:14, with Robin Britton just one second behind. Wayne Tooze was next AVR to finish in 37:48, then James Sibley in 38:21, Steven Lewis 39:08 and Gavin Warren came in smiling taking 40:04. There was a photo-finish as Anna McLoughlin was chased to the line by Margaret Pearce as they both recorded 40:55. Steve Reynolds sprinted home in 41:01, with Rick Wood recording a good time of 41:42. The next AVR’s were Henley Bailey, 43:11; Kelly Dack 43:57; with Chelle Woodward making a dash for home with her Dad, Geoff in 44:43. Graham Newton led a line of AVRs in 46:06, Laura Bailey 46:27; Janet Cullum 46:58; Kate Alexander 50:16; Diane Newton 51:49 and Marilyn Hughes 52:38 Amie Sibley sped up the finish slope just one second in front of daughter Bethany in 52:40.

The second event was a one-lap, 2.5 mile Junior Race and Fun Run won by AVR Jacob Clode in 12:56. He was hotly pursued by Iain Ross of Honiton RC, 13:07, followed by Joel Gibson, 13:15. A group of AVRs followed: Willam Blackledge 15:53; May Wood 15:58; Matt Thurgood 17:25 and Ben Franklin 18:12. Irene Croad romped home in 24:16, ahead of Alice Fitzhenry 27:25 and Jermaine Day 27:47. The third event was a series of races on the playing field for primary school children. Sprints and relays were ably organised by Andy Widger.

The Reece Strawbridge Centre was an excellent race HQ. Winners of all the races were presented with Pudsey Bears. The proceeds, £630.02p, will be sent to the BBC Children in Need appeal.
