Axminster secure B Division status with comfortable victory over Braunton

Axminster ensured their status as a B Division club for another season with a richly deserved 73 run win over visiting Braunton at Cloakham Lawns.

Daniel Murnane led the batting honours with an unbeaten 97 to guide the home side to a close of 241-3. There was yet another half century – an unbeaten 55 – from Joel Seward and knocks of 28 and 24 from Michael and Tristan Wakeley.

Matt Pyle (4-25) and Nick Taylor (3-39) then bowled the Axe men to victory as Braunton were dismissed for 168.

Axminster 2nds had a centurion in the shape of Paul Miller who stroked his way to 127. Sam Farrow chipped in with 43 as Axminster closed on 233-7 at Yelverton.

James Whetlor and Ben Fuzzard each bagged a brace as the home side were restricted to 173-7 to leave Axminster 50 run winners.

Feniton were beaten for the first time under Adie Pullen when they went down by 79 runs at home to D Division promotion seeking Babbacombe. The visitors scored 205-6 and then bowled the Acland Park side out for 128. Jon Pyle with three wickets and mark Kingdon with a knock of 39 were the stand out home performers.

Stuart Bright claimed 3-16 as Feniton II won by eight wickets at Cullompton II. Mike Salter (42) and Adrian Codling (38no) saw the visiting side home on 129-2 after the Landspeed Meadow side had been bowled out for 128.

Whimple maintained their bid for promotion out of the E Division as they beat another of the top four sides looking to go up, Countess Wear, by 31 runs.

Whimple II matched the senior side’s success as they beat Countess Wear by 21 runs.

Keith Brown top scored with 40 as Whimple were bowled out for 127. That was sufficient to win the game though thanks to figures of 3-15 from Jono Burden.

Kilmington are just 14 points short of promotion after they beat Kingskerswell by three wickets. The South Devon side batted first and were restated to 225-9 with Ralph Cook claiming four wickets.

Ian Gooding (60) and Tom Gooding (40) then helped lead the home side to victory.

Kilmington II went down by seven wickets at North Devon III.

Upottery moved to within 20 points of the F Division promotion places after an eight wicket win at Culmstock where they bowled the home side out for 175 and were then led to victory by Jon Mitcham’s unbeaten 84 and a half century from Ollie Rice.
