Feniton 1st XI were washed out in their C Division East game at Ottery St Mary where not a single ball was bowled in anger.

The two teams immediately above them in the table, Braunton and Whimple (both of whom they meet at Acland Park in the closing weeks of the season), both played, but with different outcomes and it all leaves Feniton still in a relegation berth and they are now 16 points from safety with three games remaining.

Skipper Jon Pyle said: “Whimple losing to Clyst Hydon was not something we expected and it certainly leaves our situation a lot more straightforward in terms of us knowing what is needed.

“With Whimple next and then Braunton – and both at our place –there’s no doubting our fate is very much in our own hands now.

“We will hope to be as strong as we can for the Whimple game and see what happens in that one.”

Feniton will be without Chris May on Saturday as he is required by Ilminster Town Football Club, but the team’s other footballers all play with Feniton, who are in Friday night action and, barring injury, will be on cricketing duty against Whimple.

The week after the Whimple visit, Braunton will be at Acland Park and Feniton complete their season with a September 1 trip to Sidmouth 2nds.

Feniton 2nds have taken an 11-point lead at the top of the Tolchards Devon League H Division East table after they bagged a 103-run win over Topsham St James 2nd XI.

Pete Avery top scored for Feniton with a splendid knock of 92 and Steven Shaw chipped in with 56 as Feniton batted first and closed on 239-5.

In their reply, Topsham St James replied with 136-7 with Louie Ferraro top scoring with 42.

Brandon Knight took the Feniton bowling honours with figures of 3-14.

On Saturday, Feniton 2nds travel to Newton Poppleford to meet Exmouth III.
