Brian and Josh Cann dominated the batting for Feniton as the villagers claimed a first win of the season at the seventh time of asking, writes Steve Birley.

Skipper Graham Tucker was very quick to explain the change ion his side’s fortunes when he said: “The sun shining as did gave us a real lift. I know all cricketers will say they like the sun being out, but I do think that we at Feniton favour the sunshine more than most! Perhaps it’s owing to the seniority of our players, but there’s no doubting we perform al lot better when the sun shines.”

On a very good Acland Park wicket visitors Clyst St George batted first and the home side were delighted to restrict them to a closing total of 215-7.

All the bowlers used by Tucker delivered, the pick of them being Mark Kingdom who claimed a brace of wickets for 34 runs from a full nine over shift.

The run chase was led by Brian Cann. The veteran batsman stroked his way to yet another league half century and was finally dismissed with his team in sight of victory for an imperious 84. Cann junior, Josh, was clearly determined that dad should not claim al the plaudits and he made sure it was an expensive evening for the Cann budget with the purchase of two jugs post match as he struck a sweet unbeaten 64 to see Feniton over the line. Mark Kingdom completed a fine all-round contribution as the other not out batsman at the close.

The win has not taken Feniton clear of the bottom two slots, but the 18 points they banked fro the win means they are now just 17 points shy of fifth placed Whitchurch.

On Saturday Tucker and his men head for Filleigh who sit third in the table with 84 points, 29 more than the Acland Park side.

The Feniton skipper says: “Hopefully it will be another sunny day!”
