Feniton, Seaton and Uplyme are locked in a three-team tussle to bag fourth place in the D Division table with two match days remaining in the Francis Clark Devon League.

Feniton currently hold that berth and they were back to winning ways after the previous week’s reversal when they won by two wickets at relegation threatened Clyst St George.

John Pyle and Mark Kingdon combined to serve up the all-round contributions that led the Acland Park men to their sixth success of the league campaign.

Kingdon (2-20) and Pyle (2-28) were amongst the wickets as the home side were restricted to 203-8. Pyle then top scored with 61 and Kingdon hit an unbeaten 45 whilst Alex Frankpitt chipped in with 38 to enable Feniton to secure victory.

Seaton’s bid for a top four finish was aided by a 20 point success at another of the relegation threatened sides, Whitchurch. Martin Bray (61), Alex Hunt (33) and an unbeaten 22 from Ben Libby led Seaton to 216-9.

Libby then turned his arm over to claim two wickets as did Mike Wheeler and the home side were bowled out for 172.

On Saturday Feniton play their final home game of the league season when they entertain Filleigh who sit joint second in the table. Seaton travel to the other side sitting in that joint second spot, Yelverton and Uplyme and Lyme Regis visit Clyst St George.

Axminster took to the pitch without skipper Tristan Wakeley who was away with a considerable number of regulars on his stag weekend.

Those that remained made a good fits of the B Division meeting with promotion chasing Ivybridge who eventually claimed a seven wicket win.

Ben Cross (59) and Joel Seward (44) were the principle run providers in an Axminster total of 134-7, passed for the los of three wickets by the Bridgers with Seward claiming two of them.

On Saturday Axminster travel for the final time this season when they visit already relegated Stoke Gabriel.

In the E Division Whimple are just five points off a promotion slot with two to play. Last Saturday they took the maximum 22 points when they beat Bridestowe by nine wickets. Given the visitors began the day sitting 27 points clear of Whimple the result was perfect for the home side’s promotion bid. Matt Richards with five wickets for 22 and a three wicket haul for Steve Hathaway helped bundle Bridestowe out for just 56, passed for the los of a single wicket with Ben Silk 31 not out when the winning runs were scored.

Whimple have two to play, both against Mid Devon opposition with leaders Kentisbeare away this weekend followed by a visit from Cullompton the week after. Rivals Bridestowe host Kilmington on Saturday and finish with a visit to a Countess Wear side whip themselves, are not yet out of the promotion race.

Kilmington’s promotion light was well and truly extinguished as they lost by ten wickets at basement side Topsham St James.

This weekend Kilmington go to Bridestowe and then wrap up their league campaign the Saturday after with a home game against Halberton and Sampford Peverell.

Chardstock were forced to take a minus ten points hit on their F Division total when they were unable to raise a side for the home game with Chelston.

This Saturday Chardstock go to an Upottery side who are now out of the promotion race after a heavy defeat at table-topping Tiverton where they went down by 71 runs.
