Former Somerset star returns to his old school

08:35 16 January 2014

FORMER Somerset and England star Vic Marks is returning to his old school to host a bangers-‘n’-mash cricket dinner.

Marks, now a journalist and BBC Test Match Special commentary team member, studied at Blundell’s School in Tiverton before going up to Oxford University in1975.

During a 15-year career with Somerset and England, Marks played in 342 First Class matches and six Tests – and featured in 34 one-day internationals and 304 List A games.

Marks has always maintained links with his old school and player for the Old Boys XI in the Cricketer Cup between 1994-2001 after retiring from professional cricket.

Marks will be using his interviewing skills to quiz Somerset stars past and present about their views on the game.

England’s dismal showing in Australia during the Ashes series is bound to be a topic for discussion.

Fast bowler Steve Kirby is a definite to go in the firing line, so is retired keeper Rob Turner, while organisers are waiting on a confirmation from Jamie Hildreth that he can attend.

The dinner has two purposes: to raise money for future tours by school teams and raise a donation for charity.

The dinner takes place on Saturday, January 18 at 8pm. A drinks reception will be followed by dinner then the Marks’ interviews.

Tickets are £15 each and available from the school office. Contact Carole Francis on 01884 232401 or c.francis@blundells.org for more details.
