Honiton require nine points from their final game to secure the Tolchards Devon League E Division title after they won their penultimate outing, claiming a four wicket win at Thorverton 2nds.

The Mid Devon men won the toss, batted first, and closed on 162-8 after their 45 overs. Honiton skipper Adam Holmes used seven bowlers in a bid to bowl out the Thors and five of them claimed wickets with the skipper’s 2-17 from nine overs the most impressive figures while a close second was Ben Kidson with his 2-19 from seven.

The Honiton run chase got a 40 run start from Dave Haysom (15) and Ben Kidson and, when Haysom fell, Tom Strawbridge joined Kidson and they took the score to 88 when Kidson fell for 53.

Kieran Conway, batting at four, helped things along the way with a knock of 23 and skipper Holmes chipped in with 13, and, when the winning line was crossed, Robert Ingram (1) and Willy Graham (8) were at the wicket with Honiton getting home with four wickets and six overs to spare.

On Saturday, when Honiton reach nine points in their Mountbatten Park meeting with a Kentisbeare side they will face again next year in D Division East.
