Holyrood Academy hosted a Primary indoor cricket competition for school years five and six.

Four teams from Redstart, Neroche and Chard School, competed in a round-robin tournament that saw each team play three 12-over games.

Chard played Neroche in the first game of the afternoon. Some excellent batting and fielding displays resulted in an exciting finish with Neroche winning by a single run.

In the second game, some brilliant boundary hitting helped Redstart A beat fellow school friends Redstart B by a margin of six runs.

Redstart B then scored a whopping 222 against Chard before restricting their opposition to 189 to gain their first win of the day.

The fourth game of the afternoon saw Redstart A beat Neroche by 20 runs before Redstart B won their game against Neroche by seven runs in the penultimate game. Some superb bowling and fielding from Chard in the last game, resulted in Redstart A finishing their innings on a low total of 203.

In reply, Chard looked to be cruising at the beginning of their innings, but a remarkable comeback from Redstart A saw them take some game-changing catches which led to Chard finishing on 199.

It all meant that, after a wonderful afternoon of cricket, Redstart A were crowned champions!

Miss Sims, the sports coach at Holyrood Academy said: “Well done to all of the teams.

“I was really impressed with the standard of cricket that was played.

“Many of the games had really close and exciting finishes which is testament to the hard work and talent of these young pupils.”
