Uplyme 2nd XI edged out by Seaton on a wet wicket

PUBLISHED: 10:37 12 June 2014

Uplyme 2nds were went down by six wickets when they met Seaton 2nds.

For the second week running Uplyme skipper Rod Holmes lost the toss and was asked to bat on a very wet wicket. Uplyme were quickly two down to the bowling of James Thomas, but opener Tyler Wellman and middle order batsman Tim Daniel decided to go on the offensive and with some purposeful hitting took the score to 73 before Wellman was needlessly run out and Daniel was well caught in the covers by Pinnock off the bowling of Ian Hunt.

The innings stalled until the Holmes family came to the rescue. Firstly brothers Wesley and Daley batted positively with Daley rotating the strike and allowing Wesley to attack the bowling for a well made 27. Daley was then joined at the wicket by his dad and together they contributed a further 50 runs to the score. Rod scored a fine 32 which included two sixes and Daley remained undefeated on 24 to leave his team on 183, a competitive score on a drying wicket.

The Seaton innings started disastrously when Neil Price had Rob Gibson caught by Tim Daniel a slip without a run on the board. However from then on ex Axminster batsman Sean Perry took control and bludgeoned a quick fire 76. He was eventually brilliantly caught on the boundary by a diving Tyler Wellman but by then the damage was done. With a further 60 runs required Will Mudd continued the offensive and scored a fine 63 before he was nonchantly caught one handed by Daniel off the bowling of Blackmore. Will Marshall claimed another victim when he had Neil Waterhouse caught behind but Seaton were always in control and cantered over the line with eight overs to spare.
