Uplyme Under-15s moved top of the West Dorset Junior League after a 64 run win over Puddletown.

Unbeaten so far this season, Uplyme chose to bat first on an artificial wicket. Tyler Wellman and Jamie Murray made a positive start with Wellman dominating the strike and opting to launch the ball over the long grass to score the majority of his runs. He rode his luck, being dropped twice before reaching the mandatory retirement figure of 35.

When Murray was bowled, Harry Felgate (11) and new boy Will Marshall, (17no), took the score up to 90 in a more sedate fashion. It was left to finisher Wesley Holmes to boost the total to 139 with a quick fire unbeaten 39 plundered from just four overs at the wicket and his splendid cameo included four successive sixes in one over.

Uplyme had to fight hard to remove Puddletown’s early order batsmen. Ben Hargreaves and Nick Brown batted extremely well and whilst they were at the crease Puddletown felt they were in with a chance. Skipper Rhys Davies eventually bowled both for 14 and 33 respectively, and, following the opening pairs demise the remainder of the innings saw ball dominate bat as the Puddletown reply closed on 75-7.

Davies finished with three wickets for 14 and the best of the supporting acts was that from George Merritt who had figures of three for 16 whilst Felgate took the final wicket claimed, sending down four overs that returned him figures of 1-12.

Scores: Uplyme 139 for 3, Puddletown 75-7. Uplyme won by 64 runs.
