Australian Nick Dinnison put in a Man of the Match performance to help Uplyme overcome local rivals Honiton at the King George Playing Fields.

Opening the bowling with fellow Australian Charlie Warner, Dinnison took three wickets for 11 runs whilst Warner had early success sending two batsmen back to the pavilion with only 21 runs on the board.

Kevin Kelly came to the wicket and rallied his side with a well constructed 44 before he also fell to the bowling of Dinnison.

It looked as though Uplyme would run through the rest of the middle order when Dinnison had captain Ingram well caught by Mark Batey, leaving Honiton tottering on 96 for 6.

However, George Meadows joined Pete Matravers and the pair dug in to add a battling 50-run partnership for the next wicket with Meadows caught by Dinnison for a gritty 25.

Matravers was unbeaten on 30 as the innings closed on 151 with Brimicombe bowling both Lapping and Freemantle to leave Honiton all out for a modest 151.

The Uplyme reply was certainly not a straight forward one as Honiton duo Adam Holmes and Kevin Kelly delivered superb line and length. The bowling was back up by sharp fielding and the hosts found themselves in early bother at 2-2!

It was that man Dinnison and colt Tyler Wellman who rallied the reply until Wellman was trapped leg before by Holmes for 22. There was then a middle order collapse similar to the Honiton one as Uplyme slipped to 65 for 6. Dinnison stood firm and was joined by another colt Alfie Bellworthy. Together the pair put on 44 before the Kelly brothers struck again. Kevin taking a fine catch from Ian’s bowling to dismiss Dinnison for an excllent 60. Undeterred, Bellworthy showing great maturity stood firm and added a further 38 runs in partnerships with Harvey Brimicombe and Charlie Warner to see Uplyme to a two wicket win with a match-winning 51 not out.

This close encounter sets things up superbly for the Corinthian Cup clash between the same two sides this week.
