Honiton and Broadclyst’s Star Tae Kwon Do is celebrating quadruple success after the national Black Belt Grading, held at the Tae Kwon Do Association of Great Britain (TAGB) Academy in Bristol.

Instructor, Chloe Lock, achieved her 4th Dan Black Belt, with student Rebecca Hart, 14, achieving her 1st Dan Black Belt and both Lewis Triggs and Harry Tandy, 10, also achieving their 1st Dan Black Belts.

Commenting on the success of the Black Belt Grading, Star Tae Kwon Do’s founder and lead instructor Lock, who recently carried the Olympic Torch through Taunton, said: “It is a huge achievement for our club that everybody passed, especially when you consider the ages of those achieving 1st Dan Black Belt status. Rebecca Hart has been training with us since she was 10 years old and has shown a huge amount of dedication and tremendous amount of natural ability in getting to this stage, being presented with a number of awards along the way. She can now proudly join her elder brother Thomas, who achieved black belt status last year, and has been helping us to train the younger ‘Tigers’ ever since.

“Lewis Triggs and Harry Tandy began training with me as ‘Tigers’ at Broadclyst when they were just four-years-old and it’s been great to watch them develop and their skills mature. They are the youngest members of Star Tae Kwon ever to get their black belts. What’s also great is that they are such good friends and have been able to take this amazing journey to black belt status together.”

Miss Lock’s own achievements are indicative of her commitment to Tae Kwon Do and her club. To achieve a 4th Dan Black Belt, she has had to train for four years while running her own very successful Tae Kwon Do school, as well as attending tournaments, refereeing at competitions and participating in regular Black Belt Training Sessions.

The Dans on a Black Belt are significant milestones in Tae Kwon Do training and the time taken between each one increases in length, ensuring absolute dedication from those looking to achieve them. The National Black Belt Grading at the Bristol Academy was completed in front of a panel of TAGB founders, all of whom are 8th Degree Black Belts and ranked amongst the best martial artists in this country.

Lock added: “Star Tae Kwon Do is going from strength to strength and we’ve got such a wide range of members. We’re also really pleased that so many families attend. Rebecca Hart will not only be joining her brother Thomas among the ranks of the Black Belts, but hopefully her father too, who is looking to take his Black Belt next year. Harry Tandy will also join his Dad, Nick Tandy as a Black Belt and his younger brother Joseph, is also hoping to take his Black Belt next year. Lewis Triggs’ younger brother, Oliver, is also one of our Tigers and is working his way through the belts to join his big brother too. And, even, my son, Kamari Star, having just turned four, has taken his first lesson with the new Tigers group in Honiton.”
