With the biggest number of competitors this year, June was going to be an excellent meeting and that is exactly how it turned out, writes Jim Bee.

With the visiting NKRA championship nestled in amongst the club drivers it was all to play for.

In the cadets, Shay Keough dominated the slightly increased IAME class taking all three heat wins whilst in the Honda class it was Archie Brown and William Elswood who topped the time sheets.

In the Minimax class, it didn’t matter where they started in the heats because by the finish it was Tommy Foster out front with Paige Holden in second and Jemima Hepworth third.

Taylor Waldron took one heat win in the Formula Junior Blue class whilst Luke Lattimer took two.

A massive Junior Max grid saw two old protagonists battling it out again as Izaac Channing and Charlie Cudlipp led the field with Cudlipp taking the first heat win and Channing heats two and three.

There were three different winners in the Senior Max class as Gemma Batstone, Stewart Baker and James Johnson all took the honours.

Returning after a short sabbatical, 177 driver, Matt Isgrove showed he hadn’t lost his touch with a hat trick of second places whilst out front it was Colin Davis taking two heats with Darren Lane seeing the chequered flag once.

The visiting Senior Blue class was once again dominated by Martin Wheeler who dominated the first two heats with Ian Branfield taking the third. Last up and still a redeveloping class were the 250N gearbox boys and Ash Goodliffe took all three wins to claim pole for the final.

With 26 cadets contesting the final, it was a tight battle between the Hondas and IAME’s and in the latter class it was Keough who got out front and set about making some space between him and the Hondas of Brown and Connor Merryfield. Keough hung on to take the race and class win with WIlliam Elswood the second IAME home in fourth.

Brown and Merryfield kept themselves busy fighting for the Honda class win and second in the race.

Brown held on to take the win and Merryfield had to console himself with second in class and the fastest lap. It was de ja vu in the MInimax class as Foster made it a clean sweep to take the win closely followed by Holden and Hepworth.

Lattimer took the win in Junior Blues with Taylor Waldron second and Thomas Massarella third. Channing and Cudlipp were back at it in the Junior Max final as pole sitter Channing lost the lead on lap five but set about getting it back.

Cudlipp proved a worthy competitor and held off Channing for the next nine laps but as the last lap board was shown, Channing struck to take the win by 100th of a second from Cudlipp. Quin Hayward in his first race at Dunks was third. The Senior Max final was dominated by Johnson who led from the lights whilst Batstone ran second until a charging Baker got past on lap 11 to take the place.

When the flag fell it was Johnson from Baker with Batstone third. Colin Davis dominated the 177 final with Matt Isgrove collecting his fourth second place of the day, albeit this one was the one that mattered! Alan Moore rounded of f a good day with third. The Senior Blue Final had a twist in the tail as second placed Wheeler was elevated to first when Duncan Mcleod was excluded by the scrutineers.

Ian Branfield also suffered the same fate. Chris Derrick was second and Kevin Ford third. Last up were the 250N class and Goodliffe was again dominant against the more experienced Roy Beal although both drivers deserve full credit for finishing the race!

In all it was an incident free race meeting that ran to time thanks to the Alpha Timing system and the timing and admin teams.

Thanks also to the marshals who did a superb job despite the big numbers in the grids.
