It was an excellent weekend for East Devon’s N1 Tri club as it succeeded in having two of its athletes achieve podium places in their races.
Patrick Livingstone is still a junior athlete and as readers of this column will now know is a young man with real potential.
This week he managed to come home in third place overall in The Portishead Sprint Triathlon.
A 400 metre swim was followed by 25 km bike ride and finally a 5km run.
His swim and run times were in fact the fastest of the day and it was only the experience of senior athletes in the bike leg that kept him off the top step.
He won the Junior race of course, by a distance!
Tom Elliott is in training for a full Ironman race later in the summer and entered the New Forest Boskman race to asses his fitness and put his training to the test.
This race is staged over 1.75 miles of swimming, 75 Miles of cycling and finally a 13 mile run.
Being the New Forest the course is anything but flat, and the run is rated as ‘tough’. Elliott was absolutely delighted to come home in third place in the race and declared himself fit and ready to go for the ‘big one’ later in the year.
The triathlon season is now in full swing and N1 club continues to attract new members.
The local environment is indeed a triathletes dream and the club stages all sorts of training and competitive events all over East Devon.
The Westpoint arena is a focus point on Tuesday evening for bike and duathlon events.
There is sea swimming on Fridays and Mondays plus pool sessions in both Honiton and Sidmouth and all sorts of cycling groups on offer.
