Head for Stafford Cross, Seaton on Sunday to enjoy a day at the races - the point to point there is the 65th to be held by the Axe Vale Hunt and there is plenty going on to celebrate.

There is an exhibition of photographs from the past 65 years and special mementoes will be given to the owners and riders of the winning race horses.

There will also be a competition for the best dressed racegoers - lady and gentleman - but don’t’ forget to check the weather forecast - you may need to take waterproofs if the day should be unsettled.

Nip Reed, 89, rode the winner of the first members’ race held at Stafford Cross and he is planning to be there to celebrate.

The races kick off with two pony races, the 148s go first here as they complete nearly one and a half circuits of the track, they are off at noon with the 138s at 12.20pm. Locals will be cheering on Peter Reed’s Reigndance ridden by Carly Ridout.

The point to point is off at 1.30pm with the hunt race which has attracted only three entries but could still provide entertainment as Miss Cupcake will come on for her foot perfect race at Seavington and takes on multiple winner Dr Cerullo, and Before The War.

There has been a strong entry for the feature race of the day, the Mixed Open which has prize money of £300 to the winner. Whizaar, Double Mead, Mahonia, Karshaan and Benetwood are in the 17 strong entry where Lulumar will ensure a strong pace. Quizzling and Preacher Boy also have consistently good form so it should be a great race to watch.

The confined prize could stay local as Sue Trump’s Kirkleigh is moving up through the ranks this season, and Mustangsallyrally is in top form. Richard Barber’s Seaborough stable has hit a fine vein of form so all their runners will be fancied.

Refreshments are available onsite with the popular Orswell Catering running the bar and food marquee, and there will be plenty of tradestands along with bookmakers and a hunt tote.

Entry costs £20 per car and the course can be found on the Seaton -Colyton road EX24 6HZ.
