The Wessex Point-to-Point Area’s four Vixen Horsefeeds-sponsored awards will be presented at the Summer Party on Saturday, July 21, to be held this year at a new venue, The George Albert Hotel between Yeovil and Dorchester.

Leading gentleman rider is Cornishman Will Biddick, who will also be crowned national champion when the season reaches its belated conclusion at Saturday’s rescheduled Torrington Farmers meeting at Umberleigh, Devon. Biddick has already ridden 42 winners nationally this season, many provided by Seaborough, Dorset, handler Richard Barber. Wessex Area runners-up are Darren Edwards, who struck up such a fine partnership with Coombe Hill, and Jack Barber, who came close to Cheltenham Festival glory aboard Christies’ Foxhunter runner-up Chapoturgeon.

Alice Mills wins the leading lady rider contest for the first time. Sally Hutchings’ Tropical Secret and Martin Pitchwood provided the foundation of her 26 points. The 2010/11 national ladies champion Gina Andrews and Jo Buck, who was bang in contention for this season’s national title until breaking her ankle in early May, filled the minor places.

Local rider Louis Muspratt, originally from Bere Regis, is leading novice rider after a close-run contest with Josh Newman, Martin Peaty and Charlotte Prichard. Muspratt, who won twice aboard Tracy Williams’ Celtic Rambler, triumphed in the two Badbury Rings/Milborne St Andrew awards – the Dick & Sue Woodhouse Memorial Challenge Cup and the Eric Dymott Novice Riders Trophy.

The Isle of Wight’s Hazel Goody is Wessex Area leading owner with her horse Quedillac, trained by Stuart Penny at Nyland, near Gillingham. Quedillac gained 33 points, followed by Peter Maltby’s Flanshan and Martin and Kathryn Peaty’s Pastek.
