Philip Wood and Nathan Horrocks of north Yorkshire based Classic Boots will be providing a pair of bespoke racing boots as a prize at each of the 11 Devon and Cornwall Area pony races this season.

The boots will be awarded for the ‘best ride’ on the day and winners will receive a voucher for a pair of made-to-measure racing boots.

Philip Wood said: “We just want to support young riders and wanted to provide a prize that anyone was eligible to win, not just those with the fastest ponies. They can choose between lightweight NH boots or flat boots. It is a shame we can’t present them on the day but at least this way they will get them to wear during the rest of the season. They will just have to contact us with their measurements and we will make them to fit.”

Lee Glanville, Devon and Cornwall point to point pony race coordinator said: “This is a terrific prize, well worth winning. We are very grateful to Classic Boots for supporting our sport and I am sure there will be hot competition amongst the young jockeys to win the boots.

“We are also grateful to George Welch, who sponsors riding out coats with a Devon and Cornwall pony racing logo on them, which the riders will be awarded once they have ridden three times in our area. The first ones were given out at last season’s finals. The pony racers will be looking very smart.”

The first pony races in Devon and Cornwall take place on February 5 at Black Forest Lodge at the Mid Devon point to point.
