Harry Cobden rode a perfect race on Calypso to take the 1m6f 148 race at the South Tetcott point to point in front of a large crowd. Cobden tucked his mount in behind the riders who held their ponies up early on and as the pace picked up, moved out to blast clear close home.

The Dinky Dude (Anna Wotton) and Plym Steps ( Barnaby Treneer) had acted as pacemakers, setting a fast early pace with the main group tucked in behind them. By the first corner they had bunched up and there was a bit of scrimmaging as The Dinky Dude, on the inside, thought he would try and go back to the horseboxes in instead of go round the corner. Wotton soon corrected him and as they moved on up the course, he dropped back to be replaced by Dandy Heights (Jake Bament), with Petite Pois ( Pippa Glanville), Jessies Girl (Anna Mager) and Miss Mopsy (Heidi Lewis) poised in behind. Calypso maintained his place and forged clear in the final furlong, with a good race for second between Bament, Glanville and Mager.

With 5-2on favourite Angelic withdrawn at the start for the second week in a row, Talponciau Perfect Print (Michael Treneer) made the early running in the 138 race, held over a mile. Mocking Bird (Ben Godfrey) was an early second on the inside with the prolific Bejowans Bouquet (Tina Smith) in third. Smith had the upper hand by the top bend, with Dipford Moonwalker (William Cox) in second, and although Smith was never headed, she didn’t have a clear lead either and had to ride a good finish to stay ahead of Cox and Godfrey who took the places.

Emma Lawson on Diptford Melika won the Classic Boots pair of bespoke racing boots for ride of the day.

Riders now have the Devon and Cornwall Area finals to look forward to which take place after the Torrington Farmers point to point at Umberleigh on June 16.
