The Axe Vale Hunt with will be holding its 65th anniversary point to point meeting this Saturday, May 26 at Stafford Cross, near Seaton.

Special commemorative mementoes will be presented to owners and there will be an exhibition of old photos and memorabilia on display for everyone to enjoy. There will also be prize for the best dressed lady and gentleman racegoer. With over 100 entries received for the main card an exciting day’s racing is in store.

The seven race card begins at 1.30pm, preceded by two pony races at 12 noon.

First up is the Beviss & Beckingsale Solicitors-sponsored Hunt race. Before The War has had two wins so far and beat the odds on favourite at Lower Machen. Dr Cerullo has wins in double figures and recently came third to Armoury House at Wilton.

The Confined has been sponsored by J & JF Baker of Colyton. Entries include Allerford Jack fresh from winning the Confined at Cothelstone. Sue Trump’s Ashclyst, trained locally at Payhembury by in the in-form Jefford stable, is another Cothelstone winner - taking the Men’s Open there in a fast time. Gunner Be Quick has clocked up two recent seconds and is looking for his first win. He was third to Southwestern at Little Windsor and the second horse in that race, Louis Pasteur, ran a cracking race to win the Hunter Chase at Newton Abbot this week, leaving King Sirus, Whizzaar and the favorite Gwanako trailing in his wake.

Axminster Carpets sponsor the Mixed Open. This could be another Barber/Biddick win with Flanshan who only just missed out on a win at Holnicote to Lake Legend by half a length on sticky ground. Qozac is another with some good form and acts on firmer ground but can be error prone.

The Intermediate is sponsored by Everys Solicitors. Googoobarabajagal likes a sound surface, has had a break and could come out fresh to take this race for the Heard family.

Matford Landrover sponsor the CA Club Members (Nov Riders) race. Joe Hill is currently leading the Wilkinson Sword Novice Award and will be looking to improve his lead with a win on Ravethebrave. Prince Massini, ridden by Charlotte Prichard, acts on any ground and has been in fine form for the first season rider.

The Restricted is sponsored by Diplock Estate Agents. Hand Act Or Part ran a good second behind Searree at Trebudannon. King Of Alcatraz came a close second behind Sunken Secret at Flete and was unlucky to fall at Bratton Down last weekend. Fairhaven prefers good ground and is another unlucky to unseat his rider at Kingston St Mary when leading the race.

The final race of the day is the Open Maiden race. This has been sponsored by Lentells Chartered Accountants. Head to the bookies to follow the hot favorites.

There is a Tote, bookmakers, refreshments and trade stands all on course. Cars £20 Car single occupancy £10. Pedestrians £5. Stafford Cross, Near Seaton on A3052 EX24 6HZ
