A bumper weekend of racing is in store over the Easter Bank Holiday, with The Dartmoor hosting their Point-to-Point horse race meeting at Flete Park on Saturday (April 19), and Four Burrow staging their meeting at Trebudannon on Monday (April 21), writes Donna Harris.

The Dartmoor point-to-point this Saturday is held at the popular party track and stunning location of Flete Park. It promises to be a fabulous family day out. Pony racing heads up the action at 1pm with two pony races, followed by the main seven race card commencing at 2pm.

The opening members race could be a great battle between the local trainers. Sunken Secret could go well for young Pippa Glanville, trained by mother Lee, seeing Pippa score her first win. Pippa will need to fend off Great Trethew winner Numide, out of the Gordon Chambers yard, Sir Watty who made all when winning at Wadebridge for trainer David Rogers, and the Frost’s team entries of Sangram and Brackenwood. Ladyvie, trained by Clerk of the course Sam Holdsworth, ran second at Cothelstone last weekend and may snatch this for jockey Hannah Welch.

In the restricted race, suggestions would be Glacial Oscar for the Henderson team, having won his maiden at Treborough Hill, coming home 20 lengths ahead of Nudge The Nugget, and the Kayley Woollacott-trained Ratline Rose, who clocked up a win and a second at two of the Wadebridge meetings .

The feature race of the day looks to be the Totnes & Bridgetown sponsored four mile mixed open, entries include the Emma Oliver-trained Gershwinner who was third here last season under jockey Merv Woodward, with another entry, King’s Wood back in fourth. King’s wood hasn’t been seen since winning at Cothelstone last season, when trained by Leighton McGuiness, has now joined the Henderson team, but may need the run.

The two mile four furlong open maiden sponsored by Francis Clark has 18 entries, in which Ah Bless ran second at Kilworthy only just headed in final 100 yards, could score here.

Thetalkinghorse trained by Keith Cumings is a suggestion in the Elizabeth May memorial Intermediate race, having impressive wins at Black Forest Lodge and Treborough Hill.

Thinkaboutthat after his win at Ston Eston last month and the front running Ned White, who will appreciate the drying ground, are suggestions for the confined race.

The open maiden could go to the Sarah Tickle-trained Way Before Dawn, who could follow-up on his close seconds at Black Forest Lodge and Great Trethew.

In addition to the main race card, and immediately following the last race is a charity Clydesdale race, with proceeds going to Devon Air Ambulance.

With a host of trade stands, hot food, bar, and bookies all on course, this is a great way to enjoy entertainment in the fresh air.

Entrance is £10 car and driver £20 car and passengers. The course is located at Ermington, nr Ivybridge. Post code PL21 9NX.
