Eclipse is back in front

PUBLISHED: 11:40 21 March 2012

After a frustrating season in 2011 and an eventful start to 2012, Hannah Welch was back to winning ways with Total Eclipse at Buckfastleigh, where the Dart Vale and Haldon Harriers held their point to point pony races.

She led the 148 from pillar to post despite being briefly challenged by eventual third Dandy Heights (Jake Bament) with two furlongs to go, and a sustained late run from Petite Pois (Pippa Glanville) in the closing stages.

Hannah has won already this season on her other pony Vadlawalkover, at the Beaufort, but was in the wars on Total Eclipse last time out when unseated at the start and withdrawn at Taunton Vale Harriers. Chester Williams won a pair of bespoke racing boots from Classic Boots for his ride on fifth placed She’s So Cool.

Harry Cobden and his ponies are on fire this season – he won both races at Buckfastleigh at the South Pool meeting, and won the 138 this time on Ninfield Millionaires Delight. Tyler Heard worked hard to challenge on Bronze Lawrance in the last furlong and had a real battle with Michael Treneer on Talponciau Perfect Print – in the end only a short head divided second and third with Bronze Lawrance getting the judge’s verdict.

!38: 1, Ninfield Millionaires Delight, Harry Cobden; 2, Bronze Lawrance, Tyler Heard, 3, Talponciau Perfect Print, Michael Treneer; 4, Bejowans Bouquet, Tina Smith; 8 ran, 5l, sh hd, 1.38.

148: 1, Total Eclipse, Hannah Welch; 2, Petite Pois, Pippa Glanville; 3, Dandy Heights, Jake Bament; 4, Miss Mopsy, Heidi Lewis; 10 ran, 2l, 10l, 1.50.

Entries close this Saturday, March 24, for the next pony racing which is at Great Trethew in Cornwall on April 1, 12.30pm.
