Pony racing finals take place at the Torrington Farmers' point to point at Umberleigh on Saturday, June 16.

The stage is set for an excitng pony racing finale at Umberleigh on Saturday. And it will be a goodbye to four riders - Jake Bament, Heidi Lewis, Pippa Glanville and Ella Pickard - who are all planning to ride in point to points next season.

Bament and Glanville have been pony racing since they were nine years old, and the latter is hoping to end her pony racing career on Petite Pois by enjoying Charles Owen series races during July, August and September.

Bament will by tring to wrest the overall points championship from 138 rider Tina Smith. There are seven in the 138 race, headed by Smith on Bejowans Bouquet, Tyler Heard on Angelic and Michael Treneer on Talponciau Perfect Print.

The eight strong 148 final will be hotly contested with Total Eclipse (Hannah Welch) bidding to remain unbeaten this season, but the pair will be pushed by sprint dynamo Miss Mopsy (Heidi Lewis), Dandy Heights (Jake Bament) and last year’s winner Tarka (Donald Comer Calder).

Prizes and points championship trophies will be presented after racing, hoodies for the first three home in each height category have been sponsored by David Pipe Racing. There will also be a final chance to win a pair of bespoke racing boots from Classic Boots for Ride of the Day.

There will also be the traditional end of season get together in the lorry park to which pony racers and parents from other areas are warmly welcomed. Just bring some food and drink along and join in.
