Pointing returns to the Devon & Cornwall area this Sunday, Jan 6, where the North Cornwall Foxhounds hosts its meeting at the Royal Cornwall Showground Wadebridge, writes Donna Harris.

Action starts at 11.30am and with seven races on the card this promises to be and exciting day out for all the family to enjoy. Fortunes can change on the home straight with a steep uphill finish that often lends itself to a true test of stamina.

First up is the Moores St. Wenn Ltd sponsored Hunt Members race and of the entries Buzz Me In has been in the frame four out of his five runs in Points and could come home in front here. Kivells sponsor the men’s open with a quality field of 15 entered, The Tracey Bailey-trained Offshore Account could take his winning tally into double figures having been impressive at Barbury before goingon to win a hunter chase at Newbury. Also entered is Sue Trump’s Kirkleigh, he relishes testing ground has five wins to his credit and took a hunter chase at Exeter in May on good to soft.

The ladies’ open could see Byerly Bear follow up on his comfortable win here at the last meeting. Trained by Nigel Edmonds he was well fancied and made all for Jo Buck, beating favorite Sericina by eight lengths. Next race up is the restricted, The Wealerdealer won his maiden at Black Forest Lodge when sent off favorite for champion jockey Will Biddick beating Bally Thomas by a comfortable 15 lengths,

Jacqui Elliot’s Ned White will be looking to reverse the placings with Batu Ferringhi who pipped him on the line here in a race won by Alright John who got up in the last few strides for the thrilling finish.

Hops Oils sponsor the PPORA club members (Nov rdrs) race in which Bryony Frost will probably get the leg up again on Wee Fly, having won here at the last meeting. Bryony stylishly rode a patient race getting up to take the race from Clew Bay Cove in the final 150 yards.

The open maiden has attracted 33 entries and this race may well be divided. The Confined wraps up the day’s racing in which Jopero a previous course winner here could score for the in-form yard of Kayley Jones.

The course has excellent viewing, the car parking is on hard standing and, with a covered barn containing all on course facilities including bar, bookies, hot food, refreshments and trade stands, wellies are rarely needed.

Entrance is £10 car and driver, and £5 each additional passenger - under 16 free. Course is located off A39 west of Wadebridge PL27 7JE
