Hannah Welch’s ponies are in unstoppable form at the moment and she romped to a comprehensive victory in the 148cm race at the Eggesford point to point against a maximum field of 10 on Total Eclipse.

She led pillar to post, easing clear around the far bend with Dandy Heights (Jake Bament) putting in another good effort in second. Heidi Lewis did well to anchor Miss Mopsy to get her to stay the long distance course, while Petite Pois (Pippa Glanville), having lost 20 lengths at the start, was never able to get in contention despite staying on well and making ground for fourth. There was a good run from Plym Steps (Barnaby Treneer) and Mick The Miller (Millie Wonnacott) in fifth and sixth.

The 138cm race saw a much deserved win for Tyler Heard, on Angelic, also a pillar to post leader. It was Tyler’s second win but his first in the Devon and Cornwall area, much celebrated by the Heard family.

Tina Smith won a pair of bespoke racing boots sponsored by Classic Boots for her second placed ride, judged ‘ride of the day’ on Bejowans Bouquet, as she had to put her all into getting past Mocking Bird (Ben Godfrey) who was third. Michael Treneer, third at Chepstow on Monday, was fourth this time on Talponciau Perfect Print and Megan Lawrence had a great ride on Balfour Skipper to take fifth.

138: 1, Angelic, Tyler Heard; 2, Bejowans Bouquet, Tina Smith; 3, Mocking Bird, Ben Godfrey; 4, Talponciau Perfect Print, Michael Treneer; 5, Balfour Skipper, Megan Lawrence; 6, Diptford Melika, Emma Lawson; 7, Rosslayne Enchante, Tamby Welch; 8, Brimclose Toffee Brulee, Ashleigh Summersby; 9, Cyfartha Moriah, Elizabeth Langton. Nine ran, 8l, 1/2l, 2.03.

148: 1, Total Eclipse, Hannah Welch; 2, Dandy Heights, Jake Bament; 3, Miss Mopsy, Heidi Lewis; 4, Petite Pois, Pippa Glanville; 5 Plym Steps, Barnaby Treneer; 6, Mick The Miller, Millie Wonnacott; 7, Annie IV, Thomasina Eyston; 8, Bubba Liscious, Christopher Gregory; 9, The Dinky Dude, Anna Wotton; 10, Lisa Says, Ella Pickard. 10 ran, 10l, 5l, 2.34.
