Disaster struck a local horse riders bid to take part in a major fundraising initiative, writes Steve Birley.
Rousdon, near Lyme Regis-based Jennie Salter, together with Sidmouth-based Liz Tancock were set to join paraplegic rider, and former leading lady jockey, Sarah Gaisford, from Buckfastleigh in South Devon, on an historic journey.
Sarah was set to take on the Liberty Trails Dartmoor Challenge in aid of the Injured Jockeys’ Fund last Saturday (April 12), but disaster struck when Sarah and her horse Gypsy met a pig when getting themselves fit for the ride; Gypsy took a dislike to the pig and Sarah ended up falling off and breaking her ankle!
Our best wishes go to Sarah to speedily get over this latest injury woe and the ride will now takes place on Sunday, September 7.
As the old saying goes: “Every cloud has a silver lining!”, and postponement gives Jennie the chance to raise more money for this worthy cause.
