Ideford set to beat weather

14:50 22 January 2013

Point to point enthusiasts will have everything crossed that the weekend’s fixtuer at Ideford Arch beats the weather after three weeks with no action.

The South Devon Hunt host the action on Sunday, Jan 27 and seven races are scheduled with 135 entries being received, writes Donna Harris.

The confined heads the days action at noon sponsored by Mark Westaway & Son and of the entries the Sue Popham-trained Swansbrook ran a good second behind Googoobarabajagal at Wadebridge earlier this month and was only just caught in the final 50 yards with the winner getting up by half a length. Another entry is the Hussey’s Hustler Club-owned John Daniell he has some decent form behind him including an intermediate win at Badbury Rings.

Next up is the Dodson & Horrell PPORA club member’s race for novice riders and the Ross Oliver owned prolific winner Wee Fly is on a roll for jockey Bryony Frost having scored two wins already this season at Wadebridge, Oakfield Legend came in second behind Timeshift at Black Forest Lodge in December for jockey Connor Flint and would look to appreciate the drying ground.

The 2m4f open maiden for four, five, six and seven year olds is wide open with those to note are the Kayley Jones-trained Pasternak Jack after his fourth at Black Forest Lodge and Aboo Dreamer the Sarah McQueen-trained gelding relished the going at Chaddesley Corbett, running a promising second to Bringinthebranston.

The feature race of the day is the Totnes & Bridgetown Race Co Ltd mixed open with a strong field of 23 entries, the prolific pointing and hunter chase winner Divine Intavention opened his season’s campaign winning the mixed open at Black Forest Lodge for jockey Mark Wall, but then got caught by half a length by Herecomesthetruth at Cottenham, the Jelly O’Brien trained Horsham Lad looks the main opponent having six point wins to his credit the latest an Aga ladies open at Chaddesley Corbett.

Following on is the Tozers Solicitors sponsored restricted race, which could be a race for outside raider Coosan Lad who has been knocking at the door in restricted races in Wales and will look to bag this for trainer Luke Price.

Two maiden races, the first for mares and fillies only, followed by an open maiden wrap up the days events.

The course is situated off A380 on Chudleigh Intersection. Postcode TQ13 OAE. All on course facilities bookies, bar, hot food and trade stands will be available. Entrance fee £20 per car load or £10 single occupancy.
