Levy board increase point to point support

PUBLISHED: 13:02 07 November 2012

The Point-to-Point Authority (PPA) is pleased to announce that following its recent Board meeting, the Horseracing Betting Levy Board (HBLB) has informed the PPA that this year’s grant to point-to-pointing will be £250,000, an uplift of £50,000.

Alan Delmonte, Operations Director of the Horserace Betting Levy Board, said: “The Board was pleased to approve a 25% increase in the allocation in recognition of the strong links between Racing and Point-to-Point. The PPA has also worked with us over the past year to review the way in which the grant is applied, so as to assist fixtures staged at less favourable times and to encourage a better spread of dates.”

Lucy Tucker, Executive of the PPA said “The PPA really welcomes the news at a time when it is becoming financially more challenging for hunts and clubs to stage meetings in general but in particular during the early part of the season when the inclement elements of the weather put a huge pressure on those staging fixtures at that time of year and attendances are less predictable.”

The allocation of the grant has been reviewed and for 2012’13 will be paid direct to individual hunts or clubs staging a meeting rather than the host hunt which has been the case in the past. Those meetings staged on less favourable dates i.e. early season, will see an increase in the total they receive whilst those later in the year and on more attractive dates i.e. Easter will see a decrease.

A flat payment of £250 was to be paid to every fixture but in light of the additional £50,000 received this has been increased to £450 per fixture. The breakdown is as follows:

BAND/No of Fixtures/Allocation

1 Dec – Feb/46/£1,615

2 March/44/£1,365

3 Apr, May, June/83/£1,170

4 Easter Saturday & Tues/15/£752

5 Easter Monday/11/£660
