Monday racing at Stevenstone

PUBLISHED: 12:40 01 May 2012

The Stevenstone host the second of the weekend’s point-to-point fixtures at Vauterhill near High Bickington on Bank Holiday Monday, May 7.

Boasting scenic views of the North Devon countryside the course offers a number of good viewing points for racegoers to enjoy the action.

The first race on the card at 2pm is the Hunt Members sponsored by Hunshaw Game Farm. Entries include King Of Alcatraz who won his maiden at Cothelstone last season, he was running well in soft ground at Trebuddanan before blundering near home and unseating his jockey two out last month. Special Account could find his form again and Lulumar has a previous second here and comes into it.

Next up is the restricted and this has been sponsored by T T Buildings. The 14 entries include Searee who has some good form although he disappointed when sent off favorite at Flete. Silver Commander won his maiden at Trebudannon in softening ground staying on strongly.

Farm Cottage Holidays sponsor the Mixed Open and Special Account could take some catching if connections opt for this race. Total Containment is on a hat trick already this season. His wins include at Trebudannon last month on softening ground and he will probably go off favorite for this. Took My Eye is another with some good previous form, although may prefer firmer ground.

Alpha Native, who is entered in the Kivells-sponsored confined, scored a comfy win at Upcott Cross for in form jockey Will Biddick. Light Touch got up to beat Karshaan by half a length at Cherrybrook and Shanann Star was impressive at Flete for Darren Edwards.

Ed Wade & Son sponsor the intermediate. Of the eight entered Googoobarabajagal acts on any and only just lost out on a hat trick this season to Certain Flight at Flete. The Ollie Bush-trained I’m In Charge won well at Badbury Rings.

The final race of the day is the open maiden which is sponsored by F.C.Cleaning Systems. There are 28 entered and this may well be divided. There are plenty entered who are capable of getting off the mark for the season, so head to the bookies for indicators for the best clues.

The course offers on course catering, bar and bookies with plenty of trade stands. Entrance is £20 car and passengers and £10 per car and driver. It is locaed at Vauterhill, High Bickington, Umberleigh, post code EX37 9BT.
