Pontispool Equine Sports Centre is limbering up for its British Eventing Horse Trials that take place this weekend, May 26 to 28, and spectators can expect three full days of action at the Somerset venue, writes Lucy Johnson.

Event organisers received hundreds of entries, and rather than ballot anyone out, they’ve re-jigged the programme giving everyone the chance of a run.

Intermediate and Novice classes are running on Saturday when some big names will be in action, including this year’s Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials winner Jonelle Price, and Alexander Bragg, who is sponsored by the venue.

Headline sponsor is Wychanger Barton whose owners Roy and Jeanette Male, along with former Musto Ltd CEO Peter Smith, under the banner Wychanger Ltd, have recently acquired the nearby Countrywide store.

Organiser Richard Mitford-Slade said: “Wychanger Barton have been long term supporters of our horse trials and we’re delighted that they have acquired the nearby store, which is just five minutes from us and an easy stop for anyone coming to Pontispool.

“We’ve had a terrific entry once again which is testament to the reputation of Pontispool. It’s a great opportunity for people to come along and watch both established stars, and those with a great future ahead of them, in action.”

Live scoring and all-day catering and trade stands around the show jumping arena will add to the event’s unique atmosphere.

Entry is free on Sunday and Monday, with Saturday’s gate money donated to the Devon Air Ambulance.
