Torrington Farmers abandoned - pony racing finals lost
10:40 27 June 2012
The Torrington Farmers point to point, which had been rearranged to take place on Saturday, June 23, fell foul of the wet weather for a second time, and has now been abandoned.
The meeting was called off last Thursday, after a forecast of torrential rain for that night and for the Saturday on already waterlogged ground.
As well as settling some of the national point to point rider titles, the meeting was due to host the area pony racing finals and the end of season presentations.
Several of the area pony racing championship points results were closely contested and will now be settled from the best eight results of the season.
Four of the riders were due to have their last point to point pony race as they are graduating to point to point racing proper, having reached 16 years old.
Three of those, Jake Bament, Heidi Lewis and Pippa Glanville, have been part of the sport since they were nine years old.
It is hoped that a presentation event can be arranged shortly to reward the winning riders for their area success and to thank those who have helped run the sport this season.
Pony racing on the Charles Owen Racecourse series comes to Newton Abbot on July 22.
