World title bid by King

PUBLISHED: 15:09 19 October 2012

Mary King is competing in Le Lion d’Angers in France this weekend - contesting the World Young Horse championships with the six-year-old Cavalier Venture, writes Lee Glanville.

The horse, known at home as ‘Chubby’, is one of just three put forward by Great Britain to represent the country, the other two being Laura Collett’s Obos Cooley and John Paul Sheffield’s SBT Prospectory, in a field of 44.

Next weekend King will end her season with a trip to Pau, also in France, with two horses at the height of their career - Imperial Cavalier and King’s Temptress.

The dressage phase at Le Lion was under way as the Herald went to press. Collett was in the lead after 13 riders on Thursday, and was third after all the riders had gone. King, who was fourth from last to go this morning, is in 18th place, having scored 52.10.

King said: “It will be deep going on the cross country as it is very wet but it is a beautiful course and Cavalier Venture is very fit and well.”
