Exeter Aces cycle speedway club staged the inaugural ‘Onesie’ Local League meeting, writes Charlie-Jane Herbert.

The meeting took place on a warm, but muggy Thursday night.

The thunderstorms and heavy rain of early in the day had threatened the event, but the Aces track staff, to their credit, put a great deal of effort into making sure that everything was ready for the off, and on time too!

At the end of four rounds of fast, and furious, racing, it as Craig Nethercott who took the win in the A final ahead of Dan Winchester.

The minor placings went to Aaron Herbert and Will Tidball in what was a closely contested final.

Nethercott made the gate first followed by Herbert and Tidball with Winchester a distant last.

Heading into the last lap Herbert had closed the gap on Nethercott looked for an inside pass only to be clamped on the kerb!

Knowing that the riders in front would come out wide, Tidball looked ready to make the inside pass to take the lead only for Nethercott to complete a manoeuvre that allowed Winchester to come out of nowhere and pass both Herbert and Tidball to clinch second place!
