Exmouth Paralympic athlete David Hill won gold at the British Triathlon Championships held in Liverpool earlier this month, writes Steve Birley.

He was also crowned PT4 (Paratriathlon Class 4) British Champion after the success.

Liverpool welcomed more than 1,000 athletes from age group, elite and paratriathlon competitors.

The triathlon was based at the Echo Arena with the swim taking place in Queens Docks and the bike and run across the waterfront.

The triathlon had great support from the local community despite the tough weather conditions of hurricane Betha passing over Liverpool.

Hill, who this year is part of the Paratrithlon World Class British Squad said after the event: “I’ve been the top British athlete at recent international championships, but now I have the title of British Champion which is most pleasing. The weather made for a particularly tough race and it wasn’t necessarily about the fittest athlete on the day as opposed to who had the mental toughness to adapt the challenges of the conditions and deal with last minutes changes”.

Hill now turns his attention to the ITU World Triathlon Series for which he will travel to Edmonton, Canada, to compete in the PT4 World Championships which take place on August 30.

Hill is particulary keen to thank the support he has been receiving from Anna Marie Mazzier of The Massage Clinic, Richard Sturdy and Bike Fitting (www.cyclesymmetry.co.uk).
