Feniton make Top Club progress thanks to thrilling win over Seaton.

Feniton recorded an excellent win in a thrilling Top Club meeting with Seaton, writes Roger Smith.

The men’s team eventually won after a contest that had see-sawed one way then the other with the final score being three rinks to two in favour of Feniton.

The winning rinks were A Kury (4-wood) 21-7, J Skinner and K Lovering (pairs) 22-17 and A Smith, R Clarke, D Coyne and R Smith 26-11.

Next up a County Trophy match against Budleigh Salterton that was won by a score line of 100 to 63.

The winning rinks were L Crook, E Cox, A Kury and K Lovering (36-13), C Maynard, G Phillips, J Skinner and D Coyne (26-10) and D Sanders, S Goodenough, R Cooke and P Spreadbury (23-14).

In the Over-60s men’s triples league the A team lost on both rinks by 33-52 at Seaton A.

The B team enjoyed a return to winning ways with a win away at Marina C by 43 shots to 25.

The winning rinks were L Crook, D Conbeer and R Clarke (22-13) and T Young, C Maynard and D Evans (21-12).

In a friendly match away against Sidmouth the men won on all three rinks to claim an overall 74-41 success.

The winning rinks were E Goodenough, G Skinner and L Ley (25-8), F Jones, T Young and D Evans (22-7) and B Bowden, E Cox and P Spreadbury (16-13).

The ladies had a very busy week that started with a win against Chardstock by 35-28.

The winning rinks were G Smith, A Pritchard, Ru Clarke and G North (19-16) and L Morris, J Skinner, J O’Sullivaan and C Granger (16-12). This was followed by a narrow win against Sidmouth by 39-38. The winning rink was G Smith, J Lovell, J Smith and J O’Sullivan (18-17).

Unfortunately, the week ended with a loss to Barnstaple by 25-43 in the Inter Club competition.

In the only mixed match of the week, Feniton lost at home to Crediton by 111 shots to 142.

The only winning rink was L Crook, J Rolph, G North and R Smith (23-22). One rink was tied, that rink of D Phillips, F Jones, L Ley and R North staged a fine recovery from being 16-2 down at tea to finish on 23 each!
