In a see-saw match at Topsham Sports Ground on Saturday, Beer Albion and University shared the points in a 3-3 draw, writes Richard Honnor

The Fishermen opened the scoring just before half-time through hard-working midfielder Pedro Fontes, but the University equalised seconds after the restart.

The students started to enjoy most of the possession then took the lead. Beer however, came back strongly in the last quarter of the game and deservedly equalised through midfielder Chris Long.

With just a minute remaining James Melville put Beer into a 3-2 lead after poor defensive work and Beer must have thought then that three points were in the bag. However, University were not finished and grabbed an injury-time equaliser.

After the game assistant manager Steve Trewick said: “We are desperately disappointed not to have won the game. We had worked so honestly and hard to turn the game around and to concede at the death was a blow, but a draw was probably a fair reflection of the game.”

For the Fishermen, new signing Kieran Love made a solid start at centre back and combative mid-fielder Ollie Morgan slotted in well after several weeks out through injury.

The Beer Man of the Match award went to striker James Melville who is currently enjoying a rich vein of form.
