Beer beaten despite another goal for Walker

Hatherleigh Town 4, Beer Albion 1

The Fishermen slipped to defeat at the title chasing North Devon side that needed a brace of penalties to eventually secure victory.

Richard Walker fired Beer into a deserved lead and only two penalties, awarded within five minutes of each other, both for fouls, turned the game in favour of the home side.

Beer boss Phil Crabb said: “It was very hard on my lads who really put a shift in. To say the penalties were, in our view, contentious, is putting it mildly. It’s a shame that right now little seems to run in our favour. We can boss large periods of matches, but then pay a heavy price for not killing games off when the opportunity is there to do so.”

Next up for the Fishermen is Saturday’s trip to Topsham Town.

The Tops sit three points and one place below Beer in the table having played five games fewer.

That means it is vital that the Fishermen get something from their visit to Coronation Field for if they return to Furzebrake empty handed then they will find themselves once again being dragged close to the group of teams battling the drop.
