Colyton and Milwey Under-11s agreed to play an East Devon Youth League double-header on the artificial surface at Colyton Grammar school.

In the first game, Colyton’s ‘home’ league fixture, the players had to contend with the remains of a pre-match hailstorm had left the pitch white!

Colyton took to the surface extremely well and bossed proceedings from the first whistle with Marcus Symonds scoring four times inside the opening 15 minutes! After that initial blast Colyton continued to play some delightful football and added five more goals before the half-time whistle!

Jacob Hale (2), Giles Basson and a brace of own goals made up the Colyton scorers in addition to that early salvo from young Symonds.

The second game was treated as the Millwey ‘home’ fixture. For the match Colyton sportingly reversed their team line-up. The contest followed a similar path to the first game with Colyton the stronger of the teams and far more comfortable on the surface with their neat passing and good approach play.

Thomas Lambert fired home a hat-trick inside the opening dozen minutes and Jacob Hale also netted as Colyton led 4-0 at the break. The second half saw a dominant Colyton add seven further goals through Marcus Symonds (2), Aidden Newman (2), Archie Clode, Giles Basson, and an own goal.

The brace from Newman were his first goals for the club. Millwey battled hard, especially their defender Daniel, who put in some good strong tackles, but every time they got near Colyton’s goal defenders Cameron Board and Kieran Burraston mopped up and cleared their lines.

Colyton’s manager, Craig Board said: “The boys are playing with real confidence at the moment and are believing in each other’s abilities. The teamwork and passing has improved immensely as I’m acknowledging assists, build up play and clean sheets as well as goal scorers within the clubs records. It is very important for the boys to learn that it is just as important to stop or set up a goal as it is to actually put the ball in the net”.

The next Colyton Sunday fixture, subject to re-arranged matches, is a cup semi-final away to Perry Street on February 23.
