Former Exmouth Town boss Jody Bolt is making a return to football as manager of Exmouth Amateurs, writes Steve Birley.

Bolt has been out of the game since leaving Southern Road two years ago, but feels now is the time, and Ammies is the right place, for him to rekindle his affair with the game.

Bolt will be joined by Rick Withers in regard to running the first team at Warrenview.

Bolt says: “The time is right. I have always felt that it was very much a case of unfinished business for yours truly at Ammies. When there before we linked the club up with my Heavitree Harriers pub teams in 2008 and we certainly had some good times together! Its well documented that I left Ammies to follow a dream which was to try my hand at managing at a higher level and when Exmouth Town came calling that, at the time, was too of an opportunity to resist! I see that Ammies have since fallen into something of a downward spiral and currently field just tow teams as compared with the four elevens we used to turn out there.”

He continued: “It’s a well held view locally that Ammies has enormous potential and there’s so much more that can be done at Warrenview on and off the pitch.”

Bolt has been working hard in recent weeks to lay the foundations for the rebirth of Ammies as a community club. Talks have been held with the Exmouth United junior section (they were formed from Exmouth Amateurs junior teams).

Bolt says: “I certainly hope that the fruit that comes fro these meetings is that some of the junior teams return to Warren View with the whole section coming back on

the completion of ground works.”

Bolt has also begun to work his way through his extensive football contacts book to see what sort of availability there is of players to help him on the pitch.

He says: “I am keen to build a two-team club in the first instance. There’s no point in having one super strong team and the other left to scrap around for players. I have had some positive early fee back, but I am certainly under no illusions that this is going to be a really tough task particularly as there are so many other clubs now operating in the East Devon area. If hard work and true grit is part of us getting back to former levels, then we’ll be all right!”

Bolt is keen to get sponsors on board and if any business can help he would love to hear from them.

Bolt concludes by saying: “I am hoping to create a real community club where everyone will feel welcome and part of it.”
