Feniton 1, St Martins 1

The Blues were denied a Fresha league victory for only the fourth time in 17 Fresha League Premier Division outings and lost top spot to Hatherleigh in a close encounter at Acland Park.

Charlie Selley had fired Feniton ahead and the game could have been wrapped up in favour of the hosts had the normally clinical Ben Ede not put a gilt-edged chance wide with 20 minutes to go. St Martins grew in confidence after that let-off, levelled and then went mighty close to taking all three points with a last minute effort correctly ruled out by the match official for a push on Blues keeper Matt Kingdom.

Blues boss Mark Kingdom limped out of the action after a quarter of an hour and on Sunday morning woke in some pain in his leg and a subsequent visit to hospital revealed a fracture of the lower tibia and he is now in plaster for the next six to eight weeks!

He said: “I am gutted. It was one of those challenges and it seems the damage was done when the other player fell onto me. It was painful at the time, but I limped my way round the club on Saturday night. Next morning I knew there was something wrong and the hospital visit proved as much! As for the game I’d say a draw is a fair result. They (St Martins) are a good side and they have yet to face Hatherleigh twice so there’s a twist and turn or two to come yet in this title race.”

On Saturday Feniton stage an East Devon derby when they host Beer Albion. Andy Jones and Eliot Dyer who both missed the St Martins game are likely to return to the squad and Alex Frankpitt is again available.
