Feniton edged out in pre-season game at Okehampton

Feniton were beaten 4-2 in a pre-season match at Okehampton, but given their selection woes for the fixture, the performance was one that left Blues boss Mark Kingdom very pleased.

The Acland Park chief was unable to see his charges play as he was on duty for Feniton in a Francis Clark Devon League D Division and a number of his footballers were also wearing cricket whites!

Kingdom explained saying: “Traditionally this is always a difficult time for us cricketing footballers at Feniton. Clearly a pre-season friendly on a Saturday throws up selection problems, but we got round it by sending a mixed squad of players from the first and second team and, by all accounts they attributed themselves very well at Okehampton.”

Mark Ebdon and Paul Dowling were the Blues’ goal scorers. Feniton are next in pre-season action next Wednesday (July 30) when they entertain another South West Peninsula League Eastern Division side in the shape of Budleigh Salterton. Kick-off is at 7.30pm.

Kingdom says: “I am looking forward to seeing just where we are at in terms of our pre-season preparation. The lads have been back twice a week training for the past three weeks and all has been going well. However, there is nothing like proper match practise and I am sure the Budleigh management will be as keen as me to see at what stage their team are at. I am hoping to have a number of new faces on show who I am keen to integrate into our squad. My planning is now at an advanced stage, but as I have always said, if players of suitable quality become available, and clearly want to join us then I am always ready to listen – and talk.”

This season the Acland Park side will once again run three senior sides as they seek once more to land the Fresha league title that they won the season before last.
