Fresha League teams finding build-up of outstanding fixtures.

09:22 13 February 2014

Archant

The second Saturday of February was a washout with just one game played in the Fresha Devon and Exeter Football League.

It means that its now six successive Saturday’s that the local football schedule has been decimated by the weather!

Since the turn of the year, across the six match days that there have been so far, just 58 matches have been played across the nine divisions.

On a regular match day the norm would be to see at least 65 matches and so the latest statistic reads 58 games played out of a possible 390!

Just 47 of the Fresha League teams of which there are 126, have managed to play a home game since the turn of the year!

Two of them, both Mid Devon-based, Crediton United Reserves and Tiverton Town Reserves, have not played home or away since late November!

There are just eleven Saturday’s remaining between now and the end of April.

In the Premier Division Tiverton Town Reserves still have 20 matches to play! As things stand they have dates for a dozen of those games (according the www.full-time.thefa.com website which lists all the fixtures) with their ‘final’ outing being a Saturday, May 3 meeting with Beer Albion.

In terms of the East Devon sides playing in the Fresha League, Feniton first team still, have 16 to play in those remaining eleven weeks as do Honiton Town in the their Division Two campaign. Both Beer Albion and Seaton Town have 13 Premier Division games to play as Seaton Town Reserves in Division Five and Honiton Town Reserves in Division Six.

Colyton have 12 more Division Two outings, Axmouth and Awliscombe in Division Four and Dunkeswell Rovers in Division Five and Colyton Reserves in Division Eight each have 11 to play and there’s ten more matches for Feniton Reserves in their Division Five campaign.

The teams with fewer games to negotiate are Division Three table-toppers Upottery who have just seven to play and Axminster Town Reserves, in the same section together with Offwell Rangers in Division Seven, have seven to play whilst Beer Albion Reserves have nine more Division Five matches.

With no end in sight to the current weather woes it seems inevitable that local footballers are going to be very busy right into the cricket season which always starts, in terms of the County league, on the first Saturday of May – that just 12 weeks from this coming Saturday (February 15!).
