Archant

Colyton 0, Honiton Town 3

Tim Genders scored all three goals as Town claimed victory in a well contested East derby.

Colyton had beaten title-chasing Dolphin seven days before and this was the first Town outing since they’d entertained Colyton back on December 14!

I needed a smart penalty save from Ben Kayes to deny Colyton an early lead. Kayes then made a fine stop in a one-on-one with a home striker before Genders bagged the first of his treble.

Genders doubled his tally before the break and notched his third midway through the second period.

The game was well officiated by referee Brian Perryman who was forced to issue a couple of red cards with Steve Rampaul and substitute Jack Knight sent for early showers!

Town boss Kev Blackwell said: “The three points are the key. I would say though that if we are to reach the heights we are aspiring too then standards need to be raised. That said this was our first competitive game for 12 weeks so I cannot be too hard on the players as they are giving their all. I am sure that when we return playing week in week out, the tempo and the intensity will return to our play.”

On Saturday Town make the long trip to Halwill who they have already beaten twice this term, beating them 6-0 in the first league encounter and then, two weeks later, 4-2 in a cup tie.
