Brixington Blues 1-0 Honiton Harriers
Honiton Harriers Under-9s were edged out of the Exeter and District Youth League KO Cup.
The match was switched to the artificial surface at Exmouth Community College. Harriers started well and there was some exceptional defending from Isaac Lidster, Mason Doble and Liam Osborne. In midfield Tyler Pendrick and Harry Smith were industrious, but despite their collective efforts Harriers fell behind to a goal that had an element of good fortune about it!
A corner found its way to the edge of the area from where a shot travelled through a crowd of players and into the net.
Despite the set back Harriers continued to be very much ‘in the contest’ with Jack Bevan enjoying plenty of success in the middle third of the pitch.
Harvey Lee did well in goal and half-time arrived with just a single goal separating the teams.
After the break Harvey Haysom came on and worked hard to close down in midfield.
Harriers were a whisker away fro levelling when a long-range shot from Liam Osborne beat the keeper, but went just past the gloves man’s right hand post.
Harrier’s boss Garry Osborne said: “I cannot praise the entire squad enough for their collective effort. Up against a very good side that had beaten them comfortably in a pre-season match, the outcome shows just how quickly this team is developing.”
Jack Bevan was named Man of the Match for his outstanding display in midfield.
