Honiton Town 4, Halwill 3

Honiton made it four wins in four outings under the management of Kev Blackwell and a second successive league victory has certainly given the Mountbatten Park side an upwardly mobile feeling.

What’s more the new Town boss also saw a valued commodity amongst his team, character, as they twice battled back from being goals down to bag a last minute winner!

It was strikes from Brad Groves and Dan Broom that saw Honiton into the break all square after they had trailed 2-0. They fell behind again early in the second half, but drew level again through Tim Genders. A match-defining moment came late in the half when left back Steve Rampaul somehow kept the ball out of the Honiton net with an acrobatic goal-line clearance. It was Sam Netherway who had the home faithful celebrating when he scored in the final minute with what proved to be the last kick of the game.

Blackwell said: “We really showed a never-say-die spirit and when you have that, combined with quality in the side, you always have a chance, no matter what the odds are.”

Town remain in the bottom three berths of Division Two, but much of that is down to the fact that they have played just four games, far fewer than the other sides in the section. On Saturday they travel to second bottom Clyst Valley Reserves who have lost all four of their home games so far this term shipping 18 goals in the process.
