Honiton Town 3:1 Uplowman

Honiton Town struck three times in the first 20 minutes, then took their foot off the pedal, but still had enough about them to bank three more Division Two points.

Joe Dixon struck a venomous shot that flew in-off an upright and that was followed by a goal from close range by Paul Blackmore, tucking away a Dixon corner.

The third owed much to Tim Genders’ pace as he got away from his marker and rounded the keeper before rolling the ball into an empty net.

With the game seemingly won Town sat back and were caught with 20 minutes remaining by a visiting goal.

Thereafter, the back four of Ben Price, Darren Witt, Ben Welch and Steve Rampaul, closed ranks and dealt very effectively with the best the visitors could muster as Town saw the game out.

Boss Gary Osbourne, watching a day after an operation to sort out an old knee injury said: “We started so brightly and I thought we’d go on and land a big win. But we seemed content to sit on a three goal lead, and what we ended up with was a bland second half performance that was nothing like the shift the team had put in seven days before when toppling Tiverton Town on their own turf.”

There’s no game for Town this coming Saturday, but they follow that with four successive home games and, given that they now sit just five points off the third place side, their campaign looks set for a thrilling finish.
