Honiton Town shot down by the Eagles of Elmore

Elmore 3, Honiton Town 1

Town suffered their first defeat under boss Kev Blackwell when they became the latest side to lose to the table topping Tiverton-based outfit.

Blackwell said: “We can be very pleased with what we put in at Horsdon Park. They (Elmore) certainly knew at full-time that they had been in a game.”

The Eagles have now won all but one of their 13 Division One games so far, but Town gave the plenty to think about, particularly when Tom Genders halved the first half deficit. A goal in the closing stages of the half dented the Town hopes and, despite an evenly contested second period, no further goals were forthcoming.

This Saturday Town turn their attention to the County Cup when they travel to Newton Poppleford to meet Colaton Raleigh in the last eight of the Firewatch Devon Senior Cup. The two sides met as recently as last month in the Fresha League Division One game that Town won 2-1. The two teams sit seventh and eighth in the table, both with a dozen points with Colaton holding a better goal difference though they have played two games more than Blackwell’s team.

The Town boss, who played in a County Cup semi-final during his days as a player at Dunkeswell, says: “This is a huge game for us. I have told the players that its time the likes of Honiton Town enjoy success in the big competitions. People take note of cup winners and this team can make some good headlines if they can make progress on Saturday.”
