Honiton Town Under-14s play all the football as they are beaten by St Martins.

Honiton Town 0, St Martin’s 4

Honiton Town Under-14s ended beaten by a visiting side that had recently secure promotion, but who left having been under the cosh for long periods, writes James Broad.

St Martin’s began well and were sharp in attack, but they found the home defence in resilient mood with Connor Flanagan and Elliott Forwell outing in some tremendous tackles. There was an element of good fortune about the opening goal as it arrived following a mix up in the Town defence. The home were straight back onto the front foot and were unlucky when a number of raids came to no fruition.

Connor Flanagan saw a superb strike from the half-way line fly just wide of the upright before a Kyle Newham strike was well saved by the keeper.

Town glovesman James Broad sent his long goal kick to the feet of Elliot Forwell hit who then fired a shot that was goal bound before being deflected for a corner.

The corner was met by Tom Young, but his header went just over the bar.

Jacob Murphy linked well with Joe Gillard and Kyle Newham, but, and against the run of play, the visitors doubled their lead just before the break.

In the second half Town continued to push forward and Murphy, Forwell and Newham all went close.

The inter-play of Charley Horne, Forwell and Ethan Seymour opened up the visitors almost at will, but a goal was not forthcoming and two further St Martins goals saw them win the game with a score line that certainly did not do justice to the Town performance.

What was a feature of the game was that, despite the visitors being clearly larger and stronger, much of the football as played by the home side who had 15 shots at goal to the eight of the visitors!

The Town Man of the Match award was won by Connor Flanagan for his outstanding performance as the holding midfield player.
