Millwey Rise, missing several key midfielders, travelled to Exeter University 5ths, who defeated them 2-0 in a league encounter, writes Nathan Womersley.

With no Keith Forsey, Sam Burke or Haydn Lewis, it was always going to be a tough task for Rise, who made the trip with a squad of just 12 to take on a side renowned for playing fast-paced free-flowing football.

It was a fairly even first half with Matthew Lewis working hard in the central midfield and Fraser Beament taking charge with his impressive defensive duties.

The first goal of the game come from a controversial free-kick that the student taker took, whipping in a terrific ball that was turned home by the home striker for the only goal of the first half.

Millwey played some positive spells in the beginning of the second half Mark Pike, playing the role of lone striker, working hard to create chances.

Midway through the second half Ty Allen was replaced by Dave Bridges and he made an immediate impact with his shot just grazing the crossbar.

University made a couple of changes themselves, but were unable to crack a solid ‘Rise’ defence until the final 10 minutes.

Millwey never really created any chances and certainly did not test the oppositions goalkeeper enough.

Although losing 2-0 their were still some positives to take with young central defender Fraser Beament taking Man Of The Match award, kindly sponsored by Cloakham Lawns Sports Bar.
